Ingredients and Method

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk
  • Butter for cooking
  • ½ cup maple syrup for serving

Method

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg lightly, then whisk in the buttermilk.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. Let the batter rest for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the baking powder and baking soda to activate.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
  5. Once the skillet is hot, pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges start to look set, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Flip the pancake and cook until golden brown on the other side, about 1-2 minutes more.
  7. Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the skillet as needed between batches.
  8. Serve the pancakes warm with maple syrup. Enjoy!
