Ingredients and Method
Ingredients
- 1 Cup All-purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 Cup Buttermilk
- Butter for cooking
- ½ cup maple syrup for serving
Method
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the egg lightly, then whisk in the buttermilk.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. Let the batter rest for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the baking powder and baking soda to activate.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
- Once the skillet is hot, pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges start to look set, about 2-3 minutes.
- Flip the pancake and cook until golden brown on the other side, about 1-2 minutes more.
- Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the skillet as needed between batches.
- Serve the pancakes warm with maple syrup. Enjoy!
