Ingredients
- 3 to 4 starchy baking potatoes such as Russet, about 700 g
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt (to taste)
- Gravy
- Cheese curds
Preparation
- Scrub potatoes well and peel (if preferred); cut into equal-sized planks, no more than 1 cm thick. Soak potatoes in a bowl of cold water for 15 minutes. Drain well and pat dry using clean kitchen towels.
- Spread fries evenly in the ActiFry pan. Drizzle with oil.
- Cook for 30 to 40 minutes or until fries are golden, crisp and cooked through. [For Genius models, use Mode 1.]
- Season with salt (to taste).
- Transfer hot fries to a large, shallow bowl. Top with 1 cup of cheese curds and 1 cup hot prepared gravy. Serve immediately.
Variations
- Curry Fries: Toss raw fries with 1 tbsp additional vegetable oil and 2 to 3 tsp mild curry powder before cooking. For creamy sweet dip, blend Greek yogurt with prepared mango chutney to taste.
- Cajun Fries: Toss raw fries with 1 tbsp additional vegetable oil and 2 to 3 tsp Cajun or Old Bay style seasoning. For a complementary dip, blend mayonnaise with fresh lemon juice and finely chopped parsley to taste.
- Nacho Fries: Toss raw fries with 1 tbsp additional vegetable oil and 3 to 4 tsp taco seasoning before cooking. Transfer hot fries to a large, shallow bowl. Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese and top with dollops of sour cream and salsa.
