Ingredients and Method
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs Ground Beef (85/15 is recommended)
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil (or oil of choice)
- 1 packet (approx. 1 oz) Taco Seasoning
- 1/2 cup Water
- 12-16 Corn or Flour Tortillas
- 1 cup Diced Red Tomatoes
- 1 cup Shredded Purple Cabbage
- 1/2 cup Thinly Sliced Red Onion
- Sour Cream (or Greek yogurt)
- Salsa or hot sauce
- Fresh Cilantro (optional, for garnish)
Method
- Prepare the Garnishes: Use the various bowls in your cookware set to separate and organize the garnishes. Dice the tomatoes, shred the cabbage, and slice the red onion. Set all the bowls aside.
- Brown the Beef: Attach the handle to the large skillet and place it over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and then the ground beef. Use a spoon or spatula to break up the meat. Cook for about 6-8 minutes until the beef is fully browned.
- Drain the Grease: Carefully tilt the pan and drain any excess grease.
- Season the Meat: Sprinkle the packet of taco seasoning over the meat. Stir well until the beef is fully coated. Pour in the 1/2 cup of water and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the meat simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated and the sauce has thickened.
- Warm the Tortillas: While the meat is simmering, warm your tortillas. This can be done quickly in a separate dry pan, in the microwave, or wrapped in foil in the oven.
- Serve: Once the meat is ready, detach the handle and place the skillet directly on a trivet in the center of the table for easy, family-style serving. Let everyone build their own tacos by filling a warm tortilla with the seasoned beef and topping it with the fresh garnishes, sour cream, and salsa.
